Dear Friend,
It’s been an exciting week since my new graphic novel, Unrig: How to Fix Our Broken Democracy, became available online and in bookstores. Publishers Weekly wrote Unrig is “fueled with an urgency that should initiate debate and inspire action,” and I’ve been thrilled to hear from MapLight supporters that the book is helping them better understand key problems in our democracy and the solutions available.
If you haven’t already, I want to encourage you to order a copy on Amazon ([link removed]) , IndieBound ([link removed]) , or your local bookstore. Not only will Unrig give you a stronger grasp of the problems we face and the path to a better democracy, purchasing the book also helps MapLight since all proceeds go to supporting our mission.
Unrig is available to purchase online now through Amazon ([link removed]) or IndieBound ([link removed]) .
An Unrig panel from the chapter “Who Votes,” which outlines the history of voting rights and voter suppression in the United States.
With the Covid-19 pandemic calling the safety of in-person voting into question for November, fighting voter suppression and making it easier to vote by mail have taken on a new urgency. In Unrig, I outline the history of voting rights and voter suppression in the United States and propose solutions to improve our voting processes. Now, you can read the full chapter on voting ([link removed]) as an online excerpt in Truthout.
In addition to explaining the history of voting rights and voter suppression, Unrig tackles the outsized influence of money in politics, gerrymandering, the failings of the electoral college, and more. With your help, we can address these systemic problems at the root and create a better democracy.
Best,
Dan
