Hey John,

Zohran just gave us all a masterclass in politics during his visit to the White House. I know it's late on a Friday, but I wanted to share a few lessons I'm taking away:

  1. Relentlessly focusing on affordability neutralizes right-wing politicians. Mamdani was able to use affordability to corner Trump into supporting Mamdani's progressive stances like regulating big utilities.
  2. Sticking to your values works. Too many Democrats think the answer to Trumpism is to become Trump-lite. Tonight showed us that is backwards. Mamdani went into the Oval Office and stuck to his guns. He called Netanyahu's massacre of Palestinians a genocide. He talked about the need to tax the wealthy and didn't back down from calling Trump a fascist.
  3. Our policies have broad appeal. Zohran was able to make the case he did today because there is real overlap between Trump voters and Mamdani voters. He launched his campaign by talking with people who voted for Trump or didn't vote at all and tailored his message to them. Thousands of Trump voters voted for Mamdani, and he and Trump both mentioned that today.
  4. Talented politicians matter. Not just anyone could do what Zohran just did. He charmed and convinced a President who just a few weeks ago was calling for him to be deported and was threatening to send the national guard to terrorize New Yorkers. That takes talent and guts.

The bottom line for me: We need more Zohrans. We're preparing to endorse some 2026 candidates who I'm incredibly excited about: people who have charisma, humility, conviction, and a real drive to win real change for working people. Even if only a handful of them win, that victory will shake up politics across the country.

But it's going to take a lot of work. Tens of thousands of people (including many Sunrise volunteers) powered Zohran's campaign. That's how he got to that room today.

Running that kind of ambitious campaign takes resources. Whether it's staff, canvassing materials, or digital tools to make phone banking effective, winning these elections takes money. And, since we don't take checks from billionaires, we depend on people like you and me chipping in a few dollars here and there.

So, I'm asking you, will you chip in today to help us elect more Zohrans in every corner of this country?
