Friend,
After over 30 years serving NY-07 in the House of Representatives, I have decided not to seek re-election next year. It has been the honor of my life to represent you in Congress.
I come from humble beginnings in Puerto Rico, moving to New York City as a teenager, where I fell in love with this city and its people. It was 33 years ago that I became the first Puerto Rican woman to be elected to Congress, representing this amazing city.
I have poured my heart into this career, fighting for the people who built this city and continue to make it so great. I stood up for working families, immigrants, and small business owners, always remembering my roots and being a voice for Puerto Rico.
Now, our country faces unprecedented attacks from the authoritarian Trump Administration and an affordability crisis that plagues this city.
Although I won’t be continuing my work in Congress, I know New York City is in good hands and that a new generation of leaders will continue the work to which I dedicated my career.
Thank you to my family, friends, and dedicated staff who have always stood with me. And a huge thank you to my constituents, whose continued support has sustained me throughout my career.
Even with this new chapter, I will never stop fighting for New York City.
Thank you,
Nydia
