John,
Back in 2010, the Tea Party flipped American politics on its head. The far-right seized that moment of economic anxiety and distrust in the system and used it to build lasting power.
Now, history is rhyming. But this time, it’s progressives who are stepping up.
And not just any progressives — it’s a new generation of young leaders who are fed up with the performative politics and empty promises that our generation has paid the price for. From having to go through school shooter drills to witnessing the American dream vanish before our eyes, the reason why so many young people are stepping up to run for office right now is because our generation has no other choice. If we ever want even a hope of ridding our government of the special interests that have screwed us over, we have to get started now.
It’s not just young people though. We see it at the No Kings Rallies and even through our own supporters — older generations are showing up and demanding change. They’ve watched so many rights that they fought for in their youth be completely destroyed by the Trump Administration, while the best response our Democratic “leaders” can muster are strongly worded letters or folding when it counts most, like we saw in the Senate last week.
The Democratic electorate is angry. Not just young people — everyone who’s sick of seeing billionaires dodge taxes while families drown in debt. Everyone who’s tired of being told to vote blue no matter who, while nothing fundamentally changes.
But here’s the twist: Unlike the Tea Party, we’re not trying to burn it all down. We’re trying to build something better.
Leaders We Deserve is helping build that new movement: a youth-led, justice-first response to a political system that has been out of touch for too long. And our work is fueled by everyday people, not corporate donors or cynical consultants.
So here’s what I’m asking: Can you pitch in $5 to power our movement?
Right now, we’re recruiting, training, and funding candidates who look like the future of this country — not its past. Candidates who are not just younger versions of the corrupt and feckless leaders we have in power now. But instead are true Democrats who actually fight against special interests and for the working class.
And while the old guard in DC may roll their eyes at us, the truth is: They’re the ones who are out of touch.
We’re not here to wait patiently in line. We’re here to take the reins. And Democrats across the country are cheering us on, because they know what’s at stake.
But we need your help to ensure we can give these young leaders the resources to get elected while having so many special interests against them. We will never be able to rebuild the party of the working class if we continue to have so many of our leaders funded by the very corporations that are destroying the working class. To build that party will require a new generation of Democrats who actually stand up for working people instead of the corporations funding their campaigns. That’s why we count on you. Our candidates need grassroots support so they can have the independence to stand against the special interests that have corrupted our party and are destroying our country.
If you’re with us, can you make a $5 contribution to back this work?
This isn’t just a political moment. It’s a generational one. Let’s make it count.
With determination,
David Hogg
