MCLA Welcomes Interim Executive Director Sonia Reyes
The Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs (MCLA) extends its sincere appreciation to Rosa Tock for her many years of dedicated service to the Council and to Latino communities across Minnesota.
Under Minnesota Statutes 15.0145, the Executive Director of MCLA is appointed by—and serves at the pleasure of—the Legislative Coordinating Commission (LCC). The Chair of the LCC has appointed Sonia Reyes to serve as Interim Executive Director until the LCC or an LCC subcommittee takes formal action on the appointment.
Sonia Reyes brings more than two decades of experience in leadership, community engagement, and equity-focused public service. She has held key positions in government and nonprofit organizations, collaborating with partners across sectors to strengthen outreach, services, and policy initiatives for diverse and underserved communities.
Ms. Reyes previously led both the Office and Commission of Latino Affairs at the Iowa Department of Human Rights, overseeing statewide programs, advising state leaders on community needs, and directing initiatives focused on education, access, and equity. She has also guided organizations through training, strategic planning, and inclusive engagement practices, and has contributed to numerous collaborative efforts to advance community representation and support.
