John,
My name is Darializa Avila Chevalier, and I'm the Justice Democrats-endorsed candidate challenging Rep. Adriano Espaillat, AIPAC's handpicked candidate for New York's 13th Congressional district.
We just launched this people-powered campaign, and if we’re going to take on an AIPAC-backed, entrenched incumbent and win next June’s Democratic primary, I need you in my corner today.
This fight is already personal for me. I was doxxed for my work standing up for human rights at Columbia University. And when Trump's paramilitary force kidnapped my ally in this work, Mahmoud Khalil, and disappeared him halfway across the country, I knew that our mission had expanded beyond the scope of foreign policy and bled right into our streets.
I spent months helping elect Zohran Mamdani to become our next mayor, and now I'm continuing the movement with this campaign for Congress.
The fight against genocide and authoritarianism has always gone hand in hand. Our Congressman puts the will of his biggest donor, AIPAC, ahead of our communities calling out for justice and accountability. This election, we change that.
As a community organizer, I never thought I would run for Congress. But like so many in my community and across our country, I’ve felt left behind by our establishment political leaders: they don’t see us for who we are and what we need, but only show up when they need our votes.
And I know we deserve better.
As an Afro-Latina, organizer, UAW union member, and daughter of Dominican immigrants, I know that we can’t let what we as a progressive community built this year stop with electing Zohran.
It's that same spirit of community we'll need to channel if we want to win this race and reshape the Democratic Party in Congress.
As a working-class candidate, I don’t have family wealth to bankroll this campaign — and unlike my opponent, I’m not taking a dime of money from AIPAC or corporate PACs. We’re powered by the people, and fighting for the people. Which means we need your help.
Your grassroots support helps us feed the volunteers knocking doors with us, power the digital outreach we'll be doing across social media, and prepare us for the all-out campaign ahead of our June primary election.
John, we're running this campaign the right way. That means no lying emails trying to scam grandma and grandpa, no checks from anti-democratic, pro-genocide lobbies, and no empty talking points (yes, we are going to run on real policy!)
In solidarity,
Darializa
