Dear John,

This week, I introduced my Affordable Insulin Now Act, which would extend the $35 insulin cap for seniors on Medicare to all Americans with private insurance.

For far too long, Big Pharma has raked in record-breaking profits by jacking up prices for consumers and forming monopolies that dominate the market. These pharmaceutical companies have forced Minnesotans to make the impossible choice of picking up lifesaving drugs or putting food on the table for their families. It already costs too much to be sick in this country, and Minnesotans don’t need their medication to break the bank too.

I’m introducing this bill during Diabetes Awareness Month on behalf of the Minnesotans living with this disease who are unable to access the insulin they need.

Folks, making health care more affordable is one of the issues that inspired me to come to Congress in the first place, and since I was elected to office, it’s been one of my top priorities.

In 2022, my bill that capped the price of insulin for seniors on Medicare at $35/month was signed into law as part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). And during negotiations for the IRA, I refused to support the bill until it included language that would allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices because I’ll take on anyone – even my own party leadership – when it comes to fighting for Minnesotans.

Last Congress, I also introduced the Emergency Access to Insulin Act, which would help uninsured Americans afford insulin, expand emergency insulin access and hold Big Pharma accountable for price gouging Minnesotans.

I’ll never stop fighting to lower health care costs for Minnesotans and I won’t let Big Pharma stand in my way.

Share YOUR story:

Open Enrollment for MNSure will remain open until January 15.
Republicans refused to come to the table to lower your health care costs – and folks across Minnesota are seeing their premiums increase.

If you or your loved ones are seeing your costs go up, I want to hear from you. Please share your story with me and my office here.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to this week:

Fighting for our seniors

Every Minnesota senior should have the information and support they need to access their earned Medicare benefits.

I’m proud to introduce my Senior Savings Protection Act, which will extend Medicare enrollment resources and outreach so that seniors across this country get the health care they need.

Making sure every child has a loving home

As a mother who had to fight in court to adopt my son, I have experienced the widespread discrimination in our country's adoption and foster care systems firsthand. Every child deserves a loving home, and LGBTQ+ families should be allowed to provide one.

I'm proud to help carry on the late John Lewis' legacy through our John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act.

You can hear more about my story here.

Working to eliminate food insecurity

House Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill made historic cuts to food assistance programs, and this Administration has shown us they have no interest in protecting SNAP.

This week, I introduced the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act, which would repeal Republicans’ cuts to SNAP and ensure folks are able to put food on the table.

Behind the Scenes:

In my role as Ranking Member of the House Ag Committee, this week I sat down with Will Westmoreland, a farmer and content creator from Missouri, about issues facing rural America today.

As we continue to fight President Trump’s harmful ag and health care policies, it’s important to talk to folks in rural communities who are living with the realities of these decisions every day. Thanks for visiting, Will!
