Donald Trump didn’t simply attack Chris politically — he called for his arrest and his death. He encouraged violence against him and other veterans in Congress who stood up for the rule of law.

I’ll be honest with you: This is scary. When a president openly encourages violence against a Navy veteran and sitting member of Congress for plainly stating the rule of law, that’s not politics as usual. That’s a disturbing threat to our democracy.

I know Chris will always stand firm on his principles and that he won’t back down from his oath. But at a moment like this, Chris needs to know the people he serves are standing with him.

John, Donald Trump just called for my death and arrest. 

He not only called for my arrest—he went even further, calling for violence against me and several of my colleagues who also served the country before our time in Congress.

Why? Because we spoke a simple truth: no service member is forced to follow an illegal order. The oath to the Constitution is sacred, one that I first swore as a 17-year old at the Naval Academy, and binds us all to the rule of a law.

I will not be intimidated by Donald Trump and his calls for violence against me.

So Trump can threaten me, call for my arrest, and even try to incite violence against me, but he can’t scare me into abandoning my oath.
