Yesterday, the President of the United States called for the killing of his political opponents - six Democratic members of Congress, all military veterans - simply for urging service members to follow the Constitution and refuse illegal orders.

Let me say that again: A sitting president shared comments calling for hangings and labeling Democrats as “terrorists.” This is an open call to use the military against political opponents. And it’s happening in public, right now.

This is not normal. This cannot be something only Democrats condemn.

Every American should be able to say this is wrong and has no place in our politics.

FIGHT BACK

We are a country that has already lived through political violence. We have buried people. A real president would try to bring the nation together after that pain. Trump never does. He keeps dividing people, and he keeps making this country less safe.

Two of the people targeted - Pennsylvania Representatives Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan - are not just veterans and dedicated public servants. They are my friends. I know they spoke up because they refuse to stay silent in the face of this kind of danger. That’s leadership.

We cannot accept a politics that treats violence as normal.
We cannot ask people to serve while fearing for their lives.

America should be led by values. Today made it clear this president does not have any.

If we don’t fight back, this only escalates. If we don’t organize, we normalize this. And if we normalize it, we risk losing both our democracy and the people brave enough to defend it.
