Foodtank: Medicaid and SNAP Cuts Threaten Jobs and State Economies
Foodtank (7/25 ([link removed]) )
This week on CounterSpin: Corporate news media have vilified people who use public assistance, and lied about why they need it, almost like it’s their job. Today is nothing new. But here’s a fun fact ([link removed]) , as noted by Michael Klinski from South Dakota News Watch: Ziebach County has the sixth-highest percentage of residents who receive SNAP benefits in the country, at 43.5%, and doesn’t have a single retailer that accepts food stamps.
What if SNAP weren’t a story about major political party back-and-forthing, and were instead a story about people who need food? So they can go to their job? And feed their children so they can go to school? Wouldn’t that be something? What if that were the story?
It’s a dream, but we’ll talk about it with Crystal FitzSimons, president of the Food Research & Action Center ([link removed]) .
