Today is Give to the Max Day here in Minnesota. The reason to give to TakeAction Minnesota is simple: organizing people is the only way to win against our opposition.
Duluth Tenants won Duluth Right to Repairafter hundreds of one-to-ones, nearly 6,000 signatures collected, thousands of doors knocked, and nearly 70 percent of the vote.Minneapolis Families for Public Schools made huge strides on demands for enforceable smaller class sizes and special education caseloads, after organizing 450 parents across 22 schools in the district. While there’s still plenty of work to do, this campaign built real infrastructure for future wins–in under a month, MFPS mobilized over 1,500 people to contact the district and the school board! The list of wins goes on: St. Paul ballot initiatives, TakeAction-endorsed city council candidates, and Minneapolis Park Board candidates.
Here’s why organizing people is the only way to win against our opposition: it moves people into real roles, where we can take strategic, focused action and mobilize our neighbors as part of rigorous campaigns. Along the way our leaders and organizers make countless asks: Will you get coffee? Will you sign? Will you vote? Will you come to the meeting? Our communities grow larger and more rooted in our personal stakes with each ask, and each yes.
