John,
The Trump administration loves to spread misinformation about Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Social Security Works has been on the forefront of pushing back against that misinformation, but we haven’t been able to reach everyone who needs to hear it.
That’s changing. We’re proud to partner with leading Latino organizations to launch Seguro Social Adelante to mobilize seniors and provide Spanish language resources to protect our earned benefits and ensure access to life-saving medicine.
This fight won’t be easy―or cheap. But it’s absolutely necessary if we want to win. Can you rush a donation to Social Security Works to help us reach Spanish speakers?
We have partnered with Hispanic Federation, the National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA), the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), and MANA - A National Latina Organization in this effort, and we’re already working with leaders in the House of Representatives like Reps. Delia Ramirez and Adelita Grijalva.
Social Security is the sole source of income for about 40 percent of Latino seniors aged 65 and older. Latino families also benefit substantially from the disability and survivors insurance the program provides. Indeed, Social Security is America’s most successful children’s anti-poverty program.
The Trump administration has attacked Social Security, with 7,000 workers fired, Spanish language assistance dismantled, dozens of community field offices closed, and rules changed to reduce and limit access to disability benefits and SSI. These changes will make it difficult for many individuals to access their earned benefits.
Under Republicans, health insurance premiums are skyrocketing while community hospitals are being forced to close. Under Secretary RFK Jr., health care is being politicized. He recently fired the CDC Director for requiring scientific evidence to support vaccination decisions. Under RFK Jr., the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is creating barriers that limit access to vaccinations.
Seguro Social Adelante is led by Jeff Cruz, who we at Social Security Works have partnered with on these issues for years. Jeff has worked for Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, and was the founding Executive Director for the Latinos for a Secure Retirement coalition. This new project will bring additional resources into a problem that Jeff has been working on for more than 15 years.
Help us reach Spanish speakers, and fight Trump’s attacks on Social Security and Medicare! Rush a donation today!
Thank you,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
P.S. Yesterday, I was honored to attend Seguro Social Adelante's launch event with Reps. Ramirez and Grijalva, along with Jeff Cruz, former Commissioner of the Social Security Administration Martin O'Malley, and others. Video of the event is in English here and in Spanish here.
