We’ve been made aware of a display issue on our Data & Insights Financial Transparency portal that may cause some confusion. Due to software limitations, the 20-month fiscal year (FY) 2025 timeframe is incorrectly shown as a 12-month period at the top of the page, when selecting 2025 within the list.
To clarify: our financial software presents the Village’s FY2025 budget data from the 20-month period, from May 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2025, but incorrectly labels this period as the 12-month period of May 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025. The cause of this error stems from our transition from a fiscal year (May–April) to a calendar year cycle (Jan.–Dec.) in 2025.
Here’s what this means:
- The Village approved a transition year (TY24) budget for eight months, May 1, 2024 – Dec. 31, 2024. The current budget (CY25) is 12 months, Jan. 1, 2025 – Dec. 31, 2025.
- Our financial software combined both TY24 (eight months) and CY25 (12 months) into FY25 (20 months), and mislabeled them as May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2025 (12 months).
- All financial data and reporting to the State of Illinois for FY2025 will reflect this extended 20-month period.
- The Illinois Comptroller’s Office does not recognize an eight-month transition year, so its reports (including those on the Village’s Searchable Financial Databases) reflect the full 20-month fiscal year.
This fiscal year change to calendar year:
- Improves transparency.
- Allows the Village to benefit from more competitive bidding environments.
- Aligns Village payroll reporting cycles with IRS and state reporting cycles.
We are actively working with our software provider to resolve the labeling issue found in the Village’s Financial Transparency portal. In the meantime, we have added a clarifying note to the top of the portal’s homepage.
