Terri Sewell is the proud product of Alabama’s rural Black Belt and has spent her life fighting for Alabama communities. From her time as one of the only black public finance lawyers in Alabama, when she delivered financing for new campus facilities at Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, and Stillman College, to her work as Congresswoman for Alabama’s 7th District, Terri Sewell has delivered results every step of the way. TERRI SEWELL FOR CONGRESS

Folks — on Wednesday, the House voted to reopen the government.

I want the government open — our workers, veterans, and small businesses deserve that. But I could not, in good conscience, vote for a bill that left millions of Americans at risk of losing the health care subsidies they rely on.

It’s unacceptable that Republicans pushed a bill that gets the lights back on in Washington while turning them off for families struggling to afford their coverage. That’s not a solution — it’s a betrayal.

So yes, I voted no. Because no extension of health care subsidies means higher premiums for thousands of Alabama families — and that’s not something I’m willing to accept.

If you agree that reopening the government shouldn’t mean ripping away health care, I need your support today. Together, we can keep fighting for a real deal that puts people first.
