Today is Trans Day of Remembrance, a day for us to remember and honor the
transgender people whose lives were taken by hate and violence. Today, our
community carries the names and stories of people who should still be here.
It’s also a reminder that our community has survived by taking care of one
another, generation after generation. Remembering those we've lost to
anti-trans violence isn’t the end. We have to keep fighting for the living.

Here in Colorado, we remember the victims whose lives were lost as a result of
the anti–LBGTQ–motivated mass shooting in 2022 at Club Q.

This is a deeply personal day for me. As a transgender woman, I know the fear
that comes from living every day as my true self. But I also know how powerful
it is to see others like me take the brave step to embrace who they are.

No one should have to fear for their lives because of who they are. We must
stand together to protect our transgender community, stand up to hate, and
create a future where everyone is seen, valued, and safe.

In honor of the lives that have been taken out of hate, we must work towards a
safer and compassionate future.
