John,
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to learn about its emergency response plan following the unprecedented halt of food stamp benefits during the recent government shutdown.
And while the government shutdown has finally come to an end, the reality is that food banks continue to play an essential role in supporting families and communities. And with the holiday season quickly approaching, there’s never been a more meaningful time to give to a food bank. This time of year can place extra strain on households already stretching every dollar, and even a small act of generosity can lift a tremendous weight for someone else.
For more information and ways to give to Northwest Indiana food pantries, you can find resources here: https://foodbanknwi.org/
If you are outside of Indiana and looking for a way to give back in your own community, you can locate your nearest food bank by entering your ZIP code here: Feeding America.
And if you’re unable to give financially right now, I encourage you to consider donating your time. A few hours of help can make a world of difference for families who rely on these services.
Our strength is found in how we show up for one another. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for considering a contribution in whatever way you’re able.
