We hoped Donald Trump’s attacks on public education couldn’t get any worse, but they've just escalated.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration unveiled an aggressive new plan to continue dismantling the Department of Education.

Under this latest scheme:

* The Education Department would no longer support academic programs for elementary and high schools.
* Funding and programs for college access would be stripped away.
* Child care grants, foreign medical school accreditation, Fulbright programs, international education grants, and even the Office of Indian Education would be scattered across the Labor, Health and Human Services, State, and Interior Departments.

This is just the beginning of the Trump administration's plan to shut down the Department of Education entirely, and even Republicans are sounding the alarm. One GOP member of Congress called these offices “foundational” and demanded the DoE be protected.

Education experts across the country are calling the plan wasteful, wrong, and illegal. And they’re right: outsourcing vital programs won’t help students. This plan will undermine civil rights protections, dismantle critical oversight, and leave millions of children and families without the support they rely on every day.

We can’t let Trump get away with this.

The Department of Education serves more than 50 million K–12 students and 12 million college students every single year. Since its establishment, its employees have worked to protect students’ rights, expand opportunities, and ensure every child can learn and grow. Trump is totally fine with dismantling that legacy.

Attorneys General from 20 states and the District of Columbia have already sued to stop Trump from destroying the Department of Education, but now that Trump has escalated the threat, we need every AG in America to join the fight.
