Today, on Trans Day of Remembrance (Nov 20), we honour the trans and gender diverse people whose lives were taken by transphobic violence. This year, Trans Awareness Week unfolded against a backdrop of rising anti-2SLGBTQI and anti-trans hate. and gender diverse communities, it is clear that awareness alone is not enough. Meaningful, sustained year-round allyship and action is essential. Alberta's Bill 9 Shows Why Allyship Is Needed The need for continued action is underscored by Alberta’s introduction of Bill 9, which invokes the notwithstanding clause to reinforce legislation that restricts the Charter rights of trans and gender diverse people.
