Despite the pleas of parents, teachers, and students, and despite the fact that such a move would require congressional approval, Trump is following through on his threat to dismantle the Department. John, nothing good can come of this decision. I am a graduate of public schools from first grade through law school. I know firsthand that public education can be the launching point for any future a child can imagine. But to ensure all children have an excellent education, our public schools must have the resources they need to deliver what every individual student needs. And students with special needs rely on federal help. Our students need federal funding. They need access to data to make the best decisions about programming and resource allocation. They need research and guidance on issues that schools are facing across the country. Dismantling the Department of Education puts all that and more at risk, and the students who will be hit the hardest are the ones most in need — including low-income children and children with learning differences. John, I will not back down when the future of our students is on the line. I have a long record of fighting for public education because I know that it can make the difference in a child’s life, and I firmly believe that every child deserves the kind of quality education I had. While Republicans are playing political theater over the Department of Education, I will make public education a priority in the U.S. Senate. I will do the hard work of getting students, teachers, and administrators the resources they need to succeed. But first, I need your help to get to Washington.
Thanks, Roy Cooper ![]() |
