1) China's Great Climate Change Head Fake
One of the more amusing parts of the two-week long world climate change conference in Brazil is the parade of headlines telling us that China is the greenhouse gas saint and America the sinner. That's because, for once, the USA isn't being played for a fool and footing the tab for the multi-million dollar party that after some 30 years of sermons, has accomplished absolutely nothing.
Kudos to Trump for not sending a single American delegate to this worthless shindig.
This chart that appeared in the latest Economist magazine (the once-respected publication that has gone all in on the anti-growth green crusade) confirms two inconvenient truths that we've repeated many times:
First, China is far and away the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases (they burn coal at home and make windmills and solar panels for the suckers in the rest of the world).
Second, the U.S. leads the world in carbon dioxide emission reductions in the last decade because we use more natural gas.
But to repeat: we're the villain.

2) Trump Says Dump the Health Insurance Companies
We’ve been beating the drum for years that the health insurance conglomerates are ripping off Americans every day and getting rich off of Obamacare.
Good news: Trump is listening to us. Here’s the Fox News headline in case you missed it:

Here’s his Truth Social message:
[link removed]
Amen. Health savings accounts and medical price transparency will provide better health care at half the cost.

3) Courts Toss Out Yet Another Bogus FTC Antitrust Case
More good news:
Federal District Judge James Boasberg, one of Barack Obama's most liberal appointees, has handed the Federal Trade Commission a major defeat by ruling it failed to prove Meta's acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp are illegally monopolizing the social networking market.
[link removed]
The antitrust lawsuit against Meta was started in the very last days of the first Trump administration, but it was zealously pursued by Lina Khan, who never met a merger or acquisition she liked while she was FTC chair under Joe Biden.
Thankfully, Lina is gone, but alas, the current Trump-appointed chair of the FTC, Andrew Ferguson, refused to drop the case - forcing a seven-week trial earlier this year.
What a waste of taxpayer money. Ferguson is directly contradicting Trump’s directive that the U.S. government should be supporting our “great and globally dominant tech companies.” Ferguson is playing into the hands of China and Europe by trying to tear them down.
The FTC's loss over Meta is yet another nail in the coffin of Lina Khan's anti-business crusade. She has lost so many antitrust actions in court that the Wall Street Journal has asked ([link removed]) : "Does Lina Khan Ever Win a Case?"
Although she left office in January, Khan will soon have a new perch to practice her economic pyromania. This week, we noted ([link removed]) she is now co-chair of socialist Zohran Mamdani's mayoral transition team.
The good news is that Khan is such a fanatic that she often overreaches and alienates even some of her allies. ([link removed]) Her imperious and erratic management style prompted many liberals to leave the FTC staff. One former official openly mocked the approach she wanted FTC lawyers to take: "What am I going to do? Go to court and say, 'This cement merger threatens democracy'? ... The whole approach is so incoherent."
So while Khan may bring her Inspector Clouseau imitation to her likely role as Mamdani's economic enforcer, she can - like Clouseau - still wreak a lot of havoc. During her reign of error at the FTC, many corporate boards of directors turned down good ideas because they didn't want to waste time and money in court fighting her.
We fear that in New York City, she will throw that same wet blanket over what until now has been the world's leading financial center.

4) Google Bets Big on Texas
We’ve been predicting that Wall Street may move to Dallas, and now it appears the tech industry is migrating to the Lone Star State too. So long Silicon Valley?
Google just announced a $40 billion commitment through 2027 to build three new cloud and AI campuses in the Lone Star State.
[link removed]
This comes on the heels of announcements of new Google investments totaling ([link removed]) :
* $4 billion in Arkansas
* $7 billion in Iowa
* $9 billion in Oklahoma
* $9 billion in South Carolina
* $9 billion in Virginia
We can't help but notice these are all low-tax, right-to-work states. The company has not announced any comparable investment in its home state of California.

5) Laugh or Cry
Headline in today’s USA Today - we know none of you read it - exuberantly declares:
An article titled, "Mamdani's victory fuels a movement."
What captured our attention in reading this ode to socialism was this humorous quote from a 30-year old socialist in Pennsylvania explaining why we need socialism:
“I definitely have a couple friends that are very against capitalism now, and see it as a system that really isn’t working…especially in like my field, which is health care where capitalism is just not working.”
Huh? There is no industry in America further from free market capitalism than healthcare.
