Let me be clear, John — Republicans are destroying our health care system.

They’ve waged a war on health care the entire time they’ve held the majority in Congress. They’ve made drastic cuts to Medicaid and let Affordable Care Act credits expire, which has made premiums skyrocket. That will force families to choose between coverage and paying rent.

Realistically, many people will become uninsured. This will especially hurt people living in rural areas who won’t be able to seek care affordably or quickly.

Nothing fires me up like working on health care. People need to have health care. It is unacceptable for people to be uninsured. People shouldn’t be dying because of inequalities in care, racism in our health care system. We are such a well-resourced country. This should not be happening.

Too many policymakers don’t care, or are accountable to someone else, or are comfortable doing the bare minimum. And people die. We need leaders who are willing to step up to the plate and fight for health care and make it easier for you to access the care you need.

I won’t stop fighting for you, John. Thanks for standing with me.
