Dear MoveOn member,
My name is Cheryl Zando, and I am the Chief Operating Officer of MoveOn. I manage MoveOn’s budget, and it’s my job to make sure this organization has the resources to power our work—defending democracy, protecting our rights, and building a future rooted in equality, sustainability, justice, and love.
I’m writing to you today with urgency because we are at risk of failing to meet our budget for 2025.
With just six weeks left in the year, the MoveOn team still has $1 million left to raise.
If we don’t meet this funding goal, we won’t be able to take the big swings that could create a real backstop against Trump’s power grabs. That means we will have less money to keep building the mass movement to end Trump's tyranny and to invest in fewer races, which could narrow our path to victory in 2026, making it that much harder to ensure that our democracy survives.
I have a responsibility to be transparent with MoveOn members like you, so I won’t sugarcoat it: If we don’t meet our funding goal, I will be forced to make tough decisions and make cuts to our election plan that our nation simply cannot afford.
While MoveOn remains in a fiscally sound position, we must do everything we can to meet our budget goal and ensure we don’t have to scale down our plans in a pivotal election year for our country.
That’s why I’m making a personal request: Will you rush a special contribution of $9 to MoveOn today to help stop authoritarianism in America by ensuring our budget goals are met ASAP? (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Unlike many political organizations that are beholden to billionaires and corporate interests, MoveOn is independent and grassroots. That means our funding doesn’t come from corporations or the Democratic Party establishment. Our funding comes from tens of thousands of MoveOn members in every corner of the country giving what they can—$5, $25, or $50 at a time.
While being a grassroots organization makes us more independent and effective, the truth is it also makes it harder to raise funds.
And we need to be clear-eyed about our situation. Meeting our budget is the only way to ensure we can execute the most data-driven, wide-ranging, and daring plan we’ve ever come up with.
And the cost of pulling back now could be devastating.
That’s why it is so critical that we raise $1 million by December 31 to meet our budget goal. I know this is a big ask—this year has asked so much of everyone, particularly working- and middle-class families. And I’m so grateful for the support we’ve received so far.
But the clock is ticking, and the MoveOn team is racing to meet our budget goal at a moment when the stakes for our democracy couldn’t be higher.
Your leadership is needed now more than ever to meet our budget. Please, will you give $9, or as generously as you can today, to help us put an end to Trump’s authoritarianism? (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Thanks for all you do.
–Cheryl Zando
