John, when times get tough, the days feel long, and the news feels depressing, I turn to my routine to get me through. 

That starts in the morning with my cup of café de olla from Delicia’s cafe. It’s where I had one of my favorite campaign events yet, and it’s been the source of not only good food and drink but community right here in Northeast Los Angeles. 

Drinking a cup of café de olla warms my heart and makes me feel connected to my chicana roots. The smell of the coffee and spices brings me back to my childhood and being surrounded by my parents and grandparents.
