Dear John,
A threat to abortion care anywhere is a threat to sexual and reproductive health care everywhere. That’s why Congress needs to support the passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which would codify the abortion rights promised by Roe v. Wade nearly 50 years ago and protect the rights under siege by harmful state laws – often motivated by narrow, religious views
of health care access in our communities.
The draconian state laws being implemented across the country that severely restrict abortion rights demonstrate why we can’t wait another day, week, or year for this bill to be passed. The majority of Americans agree that abortion access must be restored for everyone, regardless of the state they find themselves in when they need one. Yet the criminalization of basic and safe healthcare is forcing people to cross state lines – often over hundreds of miles, and often in secret.
That is enraging, and requires action.
Onward,
Rachel Deitch
Policy and Political Director
