The Trump administration is trying to give itself the power to deport people in a matter of hours, without a trial or a lawyer.

This unlawful policy expands “expedited removal” far beyond the border and into communities across the country, including here in Maryland. It would allow immigration officers to deport anyone they suspect of being undocumented without ever setting foot in a courtroom.

That’s not justice — it’s lawlessness.

We’ve already seen how these actions sow fear in our communities. Parents are afraid to take their children to school. Workers are afraid to leave their homes. Neighbors are afraid to report crimes. When people live in fear, we are all less safe.

That’s why I joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general to challenge this unconstitutional policy in court. Because everyone — regardless of where they were born — deserves due process.
