Big Pharma has gotten away with too much for too long — and today, we’re holding them accountable.
We secured a settlement of $18.2 million with CVS Pharmacy for its fraudulent drug dispensing and billing practices.
This case started because a former CVS pharmacist had the courage to come forward — and what they revealed was alarming. Together with the U.S. Department of Justice, my office investigated CVS for recklessly submitting false pharmaceutical claims that forced Medi-Cal to pay out millions it never should have.
Pharmacies have a clear responsibility to ensure all claims they submit to Medi-Cal are verified and well documented — making sure Medi-Cal funds go to people who actually need them.
Medi-Cal isn’t just a line item in a budget — it’s a lifeline. It covers seniors, lower-income families, people with disabilities, pregnant people — and 40% of California’s children. More than 15 million Californians rely on Medi-Cal to afford prescriptions and stay healthy. For a pharmaceutical giant to defraud that system is unconscionable — and dangerous.
When corporations try to rig the system at the expense of Californians, I refuse to look the other way. My job is to protect Californians — not corporate bottom lines. And I’ll keep going after anyone who abuses our healthcare systems.
If you believe in real accountability for Big Pharma and massive corporations, your support helps us keep doing this work. Pitch in today towards our end-of-November fundraising goal to help power the movement for accountability and justice for all.
