2WMAR: Maryland may be holding your money — new system promises faster payouts for unclaimed property $2.65B still unclaimed in Maryland
Did you know that the state of Maryland may be holding money that belongs to you?
As you know, I’m focused on making government work better – including through modernization of our outdated tech!
That’s why I am so proud to let you know that we have modernized our unclaimed property system! This cloud-based system will cut wait times in half and help clear a backlog that left tens of thousands of Marylanders waiting months for money that’s rightfully theirs.
Here’s what’s new:
* Online claim submission: Upload documentation and track your claim from start to finish.
* Faster processing: Once we clear our backlog from our old system, most claims will be processed within 90 days or less.
* Automatic payouts: Some Marylanders with smaller and verified claims will start to receive their funds automatically.
The Comptroller’s Office currently holds $2.65 billion in unclaimed property, including cash, checks, and digital assets such as cryptocurrency. You can check today if Maryland is holding funds for you. The average claim is about $185, and there’s no deadline. Check today!
