These bans targeting trans kids will make discrimination and humiliation the law of the land. So we're defending our clients' right to play in court.

ACLU Supporter, it's official: We just filed our brief to protect transgender kids at the Supreme Court.

Our client, Becky Pepper-Jackson, is a 15 year old girl who just wants the same opportunities as any other kid. But she lives in West Virginia – where a 2021 law bans her from playing school sports because she's trans.

Becky is the only openly trans kid playing sports in the state – but she's not alone.

27 states across the country have passed similar bans since 2020. These bans make bullying, harassment, and humiliation the law of the land, opening the door to transphobic witchhunts for trans and cis kids alike. Many of these states require invasive sex testing that orders kids as young as 12 to "prove" their sex by submitting detailed medical records about their weight, their anatomy, and even their menstrual cycles or submitting to physical inspections if they want to play a sport.

Every kid should be allowed to grow up with the freedom to be themselves on and off the field.

These bans are a continuation of the Trump administration's attempts to push trans people out of public life entirely – censoring our speech, threatening our health care, and forcing schools to drop policies protecting trans kids.

We can't let these attacks go unchallenged – which is exactly why we'll be arguing this case at the Supreme Court in January. As long as there are threats to our rights, the ACLU will always be there to fight back.

We'll keep in touch with the latest on this major case and more ways you can join this fight with us. Thanks for all you do to support this critical work. And to the Trump administration – we'll see you in court.
