Insights from Power To Youth Global Festival

Spaces where young voices drive change in gender equality and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) have been influenced by the #PowerToYouth programme. The festival, held from the 29^th of September to the 4^th of October in Mombasa, Kenya, encapsulated this by showcasing storytelling, emphasising the importance of collaboration.

Forging a path to gender justice through the GTA workshop for Kenya MenEngage Alliance

In a quest to advance gender justice, the Kenya MenEngage Alliance (KEMEA) underwent a comprehensive, three-day training in Nairobi from the 7^th to the 9^th of October 2025. Facilitated by Sonke Gender Justice, this workshop served as a major milestone, reinforcing KEMEA’s commitment to promoting equality and dismantling harmful gender norms. The core of the training focused on the Gender Transformative Approach, a framework designed to move beyond merely acknowledging gender differences to actively addressing the underlying power imbalances and structural inequalities that fuel discrimination.

MenEngage Africa Advances advocacy on the EALA FGM Bill

From the 8^th to the 11^th of September 2025, a coalition of activists and organisations from across East Africa gathered in Arusha to strategise on passing a landmark regional law to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The meeting, convened by Sonke Gender Justice through the MenEngage Africa Alliance, focused on the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) FGM Bill, which is currently moving through a critical phase in the legislative process.

Celebrating Sexual Health Month

September is Sexual Health Month, a time for holding open conversations, spotlighting barriers, and committing to better Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for everyone. At MenEngage Africa and Sonke Gender Justice, our campaign #ActForSRHR reminds us that SRHR is for every BODY—no matter age, gender, orientation, or ability.

MenEngage Cameroon member, Ntembo Ekong at World Youth Development Forum

The Youth Development Forum convened youth from across the globe to promote innovation and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, hosted in Suzhou and Changsha, China. Nembo Ekong was among other Cameroonian youth leaders representing Rural and Urban Grassroots Business Women Association, a member organisation of MenEngage Cameroon.

Young people at the forefront of SRHR advocacy

Ethiopia, home to over 37 million young people, is seeing a new wave of youth-led advocacy for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). To strengthen meaningful and inclusive youth participation, Sonke Gender Justice, under the SRHR4All programme, hosted a three-day capacity-strengthening workshop in Addis Ababa from August 4 to 6, 2025. The workshop equipped 15 youth leaders and civil society representatives with practical tools to influence SRHR policy, accountability, and service delivery. Rooted in the belief that young people have the right to shape decisions affecting them, the workshop focused on strengthening awareness of participation principles, building advocacy skills, and fostering intergenerational collaboration.

Africa Regional Convening Towards Women Deliver 2026 ([link removed])

This We are just a few weeks away from the Regional Africa Convening, a key gathering that will bring together gender justice advocates, activists, and partners from across the continent to shape Africa’s collective agenda ahead of Women Deliver 2026.
Hosted by Sonke Gender Justice and other organisations, the convening will provide space to reflect, connect, and strategise on how to advance gender equality and women’s rights in the lead-up to this global event.
