ABRAHAM'S FATHERHOOD &
MANAGING A CHURCH DIVIDED

Israel’s place in the theological structure of Scripture changed 200 years ago with the introduction of the idea that two separate groups with two distinct callings each represent the people of God.
It was a first for theology since Moses began to write about Adam, Noah, and the rest of God's people, divine history, and the laws which would guide nations.

For the 21st century church, the two-people view is the pervasive view of the church in general, a contrast against the 4,000 years of the theological thought which reigned since the book of Genesis was written.
For 4,000 years (Abraham onward) Biblical thinkers understood that there is only one people of God whose history is delineated from Genesis to Revelation.
Dr. Everett Piper, one of Oklahoma’s treasures, reflects in his article below the modern church’s majority opinion of two separate people of God. One representing the entirety of the physical line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. One for gentile believers.

However, there are still those who hold to “older” ways of thinking. And their numbers are resurging within the church today indicating the possible return of the church to its historic and more traditional theology.
THE OLD WAYS
For the majority of church history, “Old Testament” Israel and the “New Testament” church have been viewed as one and the same entity. The church has not replaced Israel, but, rather, Israel is the church into which both believing Hebrews and believing Gentiles are grafted.

This is demonstrated in the Hebrew text itself.

After Alexander the Great trained the world (Hebrews included) to speak Greek, a group of 70 Hebrew scholars conducted the first major Bible translation project.
For the first time, Greek speaking Hebrews (and the rest of the world) could read their Bibles in Greek, the language which had become the world’s language of origin.
All this took place about two centuries before the advent of Christ. The translation is known as the Septuagint.

If you were to read your Bible in Hebrew, you would find the Hebrew word “QAHAL,” a word we know as “church,” scattered throughout the Old Testament.
That word was translated as ekklesia in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament. All the writers of the New Testament, when quoting the Old Testament, quoted the Septuagint. Thus, when they wrote of the ekklesia, they had in mind those people who Stephen, in Acts 7:38 called “The church in the desert” (KJV) when they used the word, ekklesia.
Ekklesia is translated in most English versions of the New Testament as “church.” The exception is when translating ekklesia in Acts 7:38. For that one passage, many translations use another more theologically affirming word is generally used in order to avoid calling Israel "the church." The KJV is an exception.

No writer articulated more clearly than the Apostle Paul that all who embrace Christ are the offspring of Abraham (Galatians 3:29).
However, it was also indicated by Matthew when he noted the inclusion of two gentile women (Rahab the Harlot, and Ruth the Moabite) in the lineage of Christ. Rahab is in the Christian Hall of Fame. (Hebrews 11:31)

For the majority of church history, from Abraham onward, the people of God have been viewed as one group whose redemption comes by their trust in the veracity of God and His inspired word. It was the testimony of God to Abraham when God said:
And he [Abraham] believed the Lord and he [God] counted it to him as righteousness.
~ Genesis 15:6
Both Habakkuk & the apostle Paul repeated this, saying:
The righteous one shall live by his faith.
~ Habakkuk 2:4
~ Romans 1:17
~ Galatians 3:11
~ Hebrews 10:38
Certainly, modern day Israel, in its formal rejection of Christ as the Messiah, is not of the same ilk of Abraham. The apostle Paul (who was of Israel’s tribe of Benjamin) makes this clear when he wrote that:
Not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring.
~ Romans 9:7
Paul writes to the Galatians:
Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
~ Galatians 3:7
Beginning with Abraham, the focus of the Gospel (the Good News) has always been in the realm of the cultural and political, as Paul went on to write:
Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”

While political Israel is not spiritual Israel, they have every right to exist and to defend their borders. Moreover, they have generally been a great political ally to the United States.

On a more personal level, my own hope is to see the church consciously understand that there are only two “ultimate presuppositions” available to all mankind.
The ultimate presupposition of a Christian is that the Scripture is the Word of God. This means that the Bible is the foundation of all truth and the beginning point of all thought.
It is that which enables us to properly reason in all realms of culture (science, music, history, industry, government, entertainment).
For the remainder of humanity, the mind of the individual determines (discovers/evaluates/establishes) truth & reality.
Desiring to move culture toward its eschatological destiny articulated in the twin passages of Isaiah 2:2,3 and Micah 4:1, 2, I hope not to needlessly offend the multifaceted elements of somewhat tangential theological positions resident in the many denominations which are generally and broadly orthodox.
We all have much bigger fish to fry.

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

Christian Zionism is
Not Christian Heresy

In a recent episode of his podcast, Tucker Carlson commiserated with the unabashed antisemite, Nick Fuentes, in condemning the likes of U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz as being Christian Zionists.
"I dislike them more than anybody," declared Carlson, as he then proceeded to fully align with Mr. Fuentes' disdain for any American support of the Jewish state.
"It's insane, and it hurts us. We get nothing out of it. I completely agree with you there. It's Christian heresy," said Carlson to a man who has openly praised Adolf Hitler as someone he thinks is "pretty cool."

This exchange obviously begs the question: What exactly is this boogie man of "Christian Zionism" that Mr. Carlson and Mr. Fuentes so disdain? What is it about this nefarious worldview that has these two men so up in arms?
The answer is quite simple. The idea of Christian Zionism is obviously comprised of two words that are pretty well defined.

First, let's deal with the word, Christian. It should go without saying, but a Christian is someone who has "confessed with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believed in their heart that God has raised Him from the dead." (Romans 10:9)
Put simply, a Christian is anyone who believes what the Bible says about Jesus; that "He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father but through him" (John 14:6), and that if we "confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleans us of all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9) In summary, a Christian is anyone who has "called on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and is saved." (Romans 10:13)
Second, the definition of Zionism is equally clear. A Zionist is anyone who believes that the nation of Israel has a right to exist. It is, frankly, no more complicated than that.
If you think that Israel, as a sovereign nation, can and should defend its borders and its people against the atrocities of October 7, against an enemy that bombs its cities, kills its babies, rapes its women, and beheads its men and soldiers, you just might be a Zionist.
So, in summary, a Christian Zionist is anyone who is a Christian and who also believes that if there is any indigenous group of people on the face of the earth who has the right to make a claim to a given piece of land, it is the Jews who, for some 4,000 years, have lived in, defended, and governed the land of Israel.
Period. That's it.

Now, some ask; Why do Christians believe this? Well, it's because we believe the Bible, and the Bible makes it clear that all this is so.
Here are just a few of the nearly innumerable Scriptural references to that end:
My covenant with him shall endure… I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness. I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said. Once and for all, I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David. His offspring will continue forever...
~ Psalm 89
This is what the Lord says: The one who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of moon and stars for light by night; Who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar, The Lord of Armies is his name: If the fixed order departs before me - this is the Lord's declaration - only then will Israel's descendants cease to be a nation forever.
~ Jeremiah 31:35,36

Has God rejected his people? Absolutely not..! Do not boast that you are better than the branches… You do not sustain the root, but the root sustains you.
~ Romans 11:1-18
So, what advantage does a Jew have..? Considerable in every way... If some are unfaithful, will their unfaithfulness nullify God's faithfulness? Absolutely not. Let God be true, even though everyone is a liar.
~ Romans 3:1-4

And these passages are just the tip of the iceberg. Verse after verse in the Psalms and the Prophets makes the same point repeatedly: God made a promise to the nation of Israel, and God does not break his word.
And as to Mr. Carlson's claim that America gets nothing out of supporting the Jews against their aggressors, well, here's another verse to consider: "I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you."
~ Genesis 12:3
So, no, the Christian support of Israel is not a recent dispensational "heresy" as Tucker Carlson claims. In fact, as far back as the time of Moses, Jeremiah, and the Apostle Paul, it has been Christianity 101.
