Friend,
Late last night, the House voted to end the government shutdown. Most Democrats, including me, were against the Republicans’ funding bill.
I voted no because working families in IL-13 deserve a far better deal. The bill brought to the House didn’t address the GOP’s manufactured healthcare crisis, nor did it do anything to prevent rising premiums that millions of Americans can’t afford to pay.
During the shutdown, I went back and forth between Illinois and Washington to advocate for my constituents – the resounding message I heard from Central and Southern Illinoisans was that they are being forced to make impossible choices to make ends meet. Between healthcare and putting food on the table or securing their retirement.
This is unacceptable in the richest country in the world, and this bill failed to resolve any of these problems. Speaker Johnson must immediately bring a vote on extending ACA tax credits to the floor to do what’s right for all Americans.
I’ll never stop fighting for IL-13 and working people in our country who deserve our support – not a betrayal.
Will you sign my petition today demanding an immediate vote on healthcare subsidies to put the pressure on Speaker Johnson and the GOP?
Thank you,
Nikki
