What happened last week in Chicago should outrage all of us, John.
ICE violently detained a beloved teacher just as school was starting for the day. Armed agents with guns and masks showed up with no warrant, slammed her to the ground, and dragged her away in front of crying children and terrified families.
The woman arrested has a work permit. They took her anyway.
This is what happens when ICE is allowed to operate with zero accountability, oversight, or human decency.
And it’s why I’ve done everything from introducing legislation to rein in their power, holding hearings and demanding answers, and calling this agency exactly what it is: dangerous and unchecked.
But here’s the truth: as long as MAGA Republicans have power in Congress, the cruelty will continue. More due process will be denied, more Black and Brown communities will be targeted, and more immigrant families will be terrorized — including in their schools.
We’re less than a year out from the midterms, and what we do right now decides everything. We can organize, flip the House, and finally start holding this administration accountable — or face two more years of unchecked, escalating abuse.
This fight is deeply personal for me. I’ve spent my life organizing and fighting for immigrant rights. I know how much pain these policies inflict. And I also know that we cannot stop fighting back, supporting immigrant communities, or start acting like this is normal.
