There’s a huge update from Harrisburg: After a ridiculous, 135-day impasse, Pennsylvania finally has a budget.
The truth is, I didn’t get everything I wanted in this extremely late budget; there were big concessions on a variety of issues. And we didn’t touch public transportation or infrastructure, such as roads and bridges.
But because we kept fighting, we secured some major wins that matter to our district: real support for our childcare and direct care workers, increased funding for our public libraries, and a new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit.
The clock is already ticking: Our next budget is due in 230 days, and I want it to be on time. Critical services, resources, and organizations count on us to do our jobs and pass a budget. And when that doesn’t happen, Pennsylvanians are impacted.
