Trump’s Department of Education tried to take back hundreds of millions of dollars in academic recovery funding that states were awarded following the COVID-19 pandemic. That money was being used to help struggling students catch up — especially those hit hardest by school closures — through after-school and summer learning programs, educational technology, and mental health support.

And today, the Trump administration backed down.
