Did you know that incarcerated women at the Shakopee Correctional Facility are currently forced to share their prison facilities with men? This is an issue that Minnesota Family Council has urged the legislature to take action on. It shouldn’t be controversial for our state to protect the basic safety of all women, especially vulnerable women.
Unfortunately, these women are being preyed upon even as we write. Some of the males who are currently imprisoned at the Shakopee Correctional Facility as of November 13, 2025 include a male convicted of criminal sexual conduct against a child, a male serving life for homicide, and a male serving time for assault. That’s why your team at Minnesota Family Council will be rallying this Saturday, standing as a voice of justice for these women.
Our Director of Public Policy, Rebecca Delahunt, will give remarks. Rebecca has boldly shared with our legislators how being housed with men is an “additional layer of punishment” for these women, many of whom are survivors of past sexual abuse.
Join us on Sunday to make your voice heard and hear more from Rebecca. As she has argued before, this is the bottom line: a just society will allow women to serve their sentence in a safe environment which is free from the threat of forced incarceration with males.
