Last year, thanks to this movement, we gave out over 600 turkeys to families at Thanksgiving who didn’t have one. This year, we hope to double that number.
We’re teaming up with NYC public housing developments, community organizations, houses of worship, food pantries and local elected officials to give hundreds of families an opportunity to celebrate community, mutual aid, and gratitude.
Many of the organizations we partner with to distribute turkeys — such as the Youth Ministries for Peace & Justice and Glebe Senior Houses — focus on uplifting our most vulnerable communities, including working families on SNAP assistance, asylum seekers new to the U.S., and senior citizens.
We’ve run the numbers, and $15-$20 means a family without a turkey gets to share in the Thanksgiving season.
