This isn’t a shutdown deal. Democrats and the American people got virtually nothing.
No extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies that keep healthcare affordable for millions of Americans. No progress for the families we promised to fight for.
We’ve fought hard to protect working families, which is why caving now makes no sense. If we can’t hold the line on something as fundamental as affordable healthcare, what are we even doing?
This is yet another example of why we need new leadership. Too many in Washington are clinging to the status quo instead of leading with the urgency this moment demands.
Ed Markey won’t even answer a basic question about whether he supports Schumer staying on as leader. Americans deserve better, and, at minimum, they deserve answers. That’s why, since launching this campaign, I’ve pledged not to support Schumer if he runs for party leadership again, and why it’s time to empower the next generation throughout the Senate.
We can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. The American people deserve courage and accountability from the people they send to Washington, not more excuses and non-answers.
