RACHNA SIZEMORE HEIZER
DECEMBER 9 BRADDOCK SUPERVISOR SPECIAL ELECTION

It's alarming to think we could lose this seat. Just back in 2009, we painfully lost the Braddock District Supervisor seat to a Republican. It's so critical for us to elect another Democrat to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors if we want to protect the important progress we've made together. We can't risk setbacks in public education, affordable housing, equity, environmental sustainability, and reproductive freedom.

But we are really anxious that the lack of party labels on the ballot for this special election could create potential confusion. Voters won't see a "D" or an "R" next to the candidates' names, which makes it so important for every voter to remember and be clear on their decision to vote for Rachna Sizemore Heizer.

Currently, there's a lot of confusion among voters about early voting dates, times, and locations. With a strong volunteer presence at the doors and the polling locations we can help win this election for Rachna Sizemore Heizer.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Del. Irene Shin’s Pre-Session Town Hall - Thurs., Nov. 13 @ 6:00 PM; Herndon address provided upon Registration. Please join Del. Irene Shin on Thursday, November 13 for a pre-session town hall! We are looking forward to an engaging discussion. Del. Shin welcomes you to:

    • Share about the issues most concerning you and your neighbors.

    • Ask questions about legislation or topics impacting our community.

    • Hear a preview of the upcoming 2026 General Assembly session and Del. Shin’s legislative priorities.

  • Friday Power Lunch: FROM KINGS TO AUTHORITARIANISM: "What Would a King Do with Mass Surveillance?” - Fri., Nov. 14 @ 12 PM; Zoom. This week, we turn our focus to the rise of mass surveillance and its growing threat to justice and democracy. From automatic license plate readers tracking our every move to data-sharing pipelines that feed federal agencies, new tools of control are reshaping the balance between public safety and civil rights.

    • LAY OF THE LAND ON SURVEILLANCE: Rob Poggenklass, Executive Director of Justice Forward, sets the stage with an overview of how Virginia’s justice system is evolving under increasing surveillance pressures — and what reforms are needed to protect privacy and due process.

    • TOOLS OF OPPRESSION: Michael Soyfer, attorney with the Institute for Justice, joins to discuss the ongoing Norfolk lawsuit challenging the city’s use of 172 automatic license plate readers without warrants. The case raises urgent questions about how these systems are disproportionately deployed in Black and Brown communities and how far government surveillance can go before it violates the Fourth Amendment.

    • FROM KINGS TO AUTHORITARIANISM: Alec Karakatsanis, founder and director of Civil Rights Corps and author of Usual Cruelty and Copaganda, explores how unchecked state power — fueled by surveillance, profit, and punishment — mirrors the logic of authoritarian rule. His pioneering legal work and writing challenge us to confront the normalization of control, exploitation, and systemic cruelty in modern America.

  • Safer Country’s Annual Post-Election Party - Sun., Nov. 16 @ 4 PM; McLean address provided upon RSVP. Please join Safer Country on Sunday, November 16, from 4 – 6 pm at a private home in McLean. This year’s fundraiser will feature Manny Oliver, the father of Joaquin “Guac” Oliver, who was murdered when he was 17-years-old at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Safer Country will be presenting Manny with its Courage award. Created and donated by Gold Works in Old Town, Alexandria. Safer Country will also be honoring three special Virginians:

    • Clerk of the Fairfax Circuit Court Chris Falcon

    • Former Virginia State Senator George Barker

    • Falls Church restauranteur Rebecca Tax
