John, Congress just sold you out.
Eight Senators – seven Democrats and one Independent – joined all Republicans to pass Trump’s billionaire budget that does nothing about skyrocketing inflation, or Trump’s dictator-like power grabs, or healthcare costs going up.
We're fed up, John. Federal workers went without pay for over 40 days, millions of Americans went without SNAP benefits, and hundreds of flights were grounded.
And all Congress has to show for it is a weak promise for a future vote on health care [1] – one that Speaker Mike Johnson is already signaling he won’t follow through on. [2] So, no relief for the skyrocketing insurance premiums that could leave millions of vulnerable Americans without healthcare.
Here’s the unfortunate reality: We know Donald Trump would rather party with billionaires at Mar-A-Lago than deliver for the American people. And we know Republicans in Congress will sell out their constituents the moment Trump demands it.
But the so-called opposition party? Too many of them are asleep at the wheel too.
When they want our donations or our votes, they’ll tell you they’re the last line of defense against Trump declaring himself a dictator.
But when it came time to hold the line, these 8 Senators gave in to the President’s bullying tactics and gave him exactly what he wanted. [3]
Common Cause is proudly non-partisan because we’ll hold any politician who lets us down accountable, regardless of party.
So, anyone who sides with Trump and his billionaire donors over We The People – including the 60 senators who voted for his budget this week – should expect to hear from us.
Already, our volunteer action teams are calling voters in their states to let them know their leaders sold them out – and patching them through to speak to their senator directly. And all year long, we’ve been holding lawmakers’ feet to the fire through our People’s Promise campaign.
We’re prepared to hold Democrats and Republicans alike accountable to protecting our values and our way of life. But we can’t do it alone. We’re not beholden to billionaire donors – but we are relying on folks like you who are fed up and ready to take action to make all of our work possible
Stay tuned for more updates on our People’s Promise mobilization – including town halls, public education, and in-person birddogging – to make sure that politicians who voted for Trump’s billionaire budget hear from the voters they let down.
Thank you for your support,
The team at Common Cause
