Friend, let me be clear: I voted NO on the Senate's bill to reopen the government.
Look, we all want this shutdown to end – nobody wins when the government stops working. But the deal the Senate sent us simply doesn't work for Michigan.

Republicans have already raised health care costs for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders and put Medicaid access for so many people in our state on the chopping block. Now, this latest plan does absolutely nothing to bring down costs for Michiganders and makes it harder for working families to get ahead.

This isn’t some abstract budget fight. This is real, and for me, it’s personal.
In my district alone, more than 31,000 people will have to pay more for their health care – in some cases hundreds of dollars more – if Republicans succeed in letting Affordable Care Act subsidies expire. That’s 31,000 hardworking folks who will be facing impossible choices – all so billionaires can buy another mansion or jet or yacht.

Well, not on my watch. I may not be able to single-handedly stop this bill from passing, but I can promise you this: I will never stop fighting for Michigan, and I will always work tirelessly to bring down the cost of health care for those who are working every day to get by.
|
|
But I need you with me. If you're sick of watching selfish, spineless politicians treat lifesaving health care, SNAP benefits, and Americans’ jobs like bargaining chips, will you please chip in $5 now to help me keep fighting for working families, win this battleground race in Michigan, and flip the Senate blue next November?
