The State Board of Education (SBOE) meets next week to continue the overhaul of the social studies curriculum standards. As you may already know, they appointed phony "historian" David Barton and other hyper-partisan figures as content advisors, signaling an effort to push a political agenda rather than put students first.
Our petition demands that the SBOE withdraw these troubling appointments and replace them with qualified experts focused on teaching the truth. It also states that the advisory board’s appointment process should be transparent, fair, and above all representative of the entire state of Texas. Sign and share far and wide!
SBOE Curriculum Work Groups will play an influential role in the social studies standards overhaul by making recommendations and drafting revisions to the curriculum. You don't need prior curriculum-writing experience — just time and desire for students to learn the truth. The SBOE needs diverse voices, parents, community members, and professionals from all backgrounds!
Thank you, as always, for your heart for our public schools and the students they serve. Several of you have already signed our petition and indicated interest in applying for a curriculum work group. With your continued support, I'm confident that we can meet our goal before the meeting and send a loud-and-clear message to the board: Schools are for kids, not politics!
