Reader,
As the parent of a seventh grader, I have more than a professional interest in math education. Like many other parents, I supplemented my son's math education when he was in elementary school during the pandemic. As a middle schooler, I also often check over his homework to make sure it gets done.
My son may not appreciate the attention, but I know that strong math skills support critical thinking and prepare students for college and careers.
At The Hechinger Report, we cover math education for parents like me and for professional educators. Our coverage explores math from multiple angles, beginning with early childhood math through to how the subject plays out in college classes and beyond. We work hard to make these stories relatable and relevant.
My son may be too young to grasp why math matters — but I understand, and so do you. We can't let our math coverage lose momentum now.
Still, there's one equation we haven't solved: how to sustain the journalism that makes it possible. We don’t have a paywall and we are independent. This is essential to our mission, but it also means we need to ask readers to pitch in. With your support, we can continue to cover math challenges and solutions for our diverse readership.
Will you help solve our math problem? We have over 40,000 newsletter readers. If each reader gave $5 we would be better positioned to cover education in the new year.
