Late last night, Senate Republicans — aided by eight Democrats — passed a funding bill that will raise health care premiums for millions of Americans.

Let’s be clear: This is a rotten deal. After 40 days of holding out, Republicans got everything they wanted, Democrats got nothing.

And there is simply no excuse — especially after voters turned out in record numbers last week to elect Democrats on the promise that they would stand up and fight for working families.

Establishment Democrats have lost the plot. Voters are looking for leaders who will fight authoritarianism, not surrender to it.

But we have an alternative. The Working Families Party is a non-delusional third party that’s fighting for a new way of American politics that doesn’t hand power to Republican extremists.

The two major parties are failing working people.

Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have spent the past ten months making life less affordable and more uncertain for working families.

And establishment and corporate Democrats have shown us no real plan to fight authoritarianism.

People are ready for a real, viable third party.

The Working Families Party is building a political party on top of the two-party system. Sometimes we run candidates through Democratic Party primaries, and other times we run candidates on our own. We take on elections from City Council to the U.S. Senate — wherever there’s a path to win, and where winning will deliver real gains for working people.

Next year, we have an opportunity to elect a new wave of leaders who understand the pressures that working people are facing every day. But we’ll need to build a massive movement of working people who are serious about what it takes to win. And to do that, we’ll need the resources to power us through the midterms so we can continue to recruit, train, and elect candidates who will fight for us, not kowtow to Trump’s agenda.
