New report: "The left’s latest gambit is the George Soros-backed vote-by-mail scheme." "Liberals have made quick use of the coronavirus crisis to promote all manner of policy prescriptions that, under less dire circumstances, would be ignored or lamented by conservatives. The left’s latest gambit is the George Soros-backed vote-by-mail scheme, which promises an election cycle ripe for fraud." (The Daily Signal) A new report from the Capital Research Center (check out analysis of it here) highlights some of the funding for a network of left-wing groups and their work on absentee ballot and vote-by-mail initiatives.
President Trump has repeatedly highlighted the election security challenges of automatic vote-by-mail elections (i.e. elections in which ballots are mailed to all registered voters based on the voter rolls). But left-leaning groups and states continue to push them.
Mueller likely to testify before Senate. What will it mean for the 2020 election? "Graham first indicated during a committee meeting last month that he would support Democrats' request to call Mueller to testify, though he also appeared to warn them against it. But Democrats argued that if Republicans were going to target the Mueller probe that the former special counsel should be able to publicly defend, and explain, decisions made during the investigation." (The Hill) Sen. Lindsey Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced via Twitter on Sunday afternoon that he would approve Democrats' request for Robert Mueller to testify.
As you'll remember, Mueller led the investigation into the claims of Russian interference in the 2016 election. He previously testified before Congress last summer, and he published a Washington Post op-ed this weekend -- which Sen. Graham also referenced on Twitter.
Democrats may be hoping to revive this issue before the 2020 election, but it's highly unlikely that they'll succeed.
New lawsuit filed for access to Joe Biden's Senate records, now at the University of Delaware. "The Daily Caller News Foundation and Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the University of Delaware for access to all records from former Vice President Joe Biden’s Senate career that are housed in the university’s library, the DCNF and Judicial Watch announced Wednesday." (Daily Caller) Joe Biden gave "more than 1,850 boxes and 415 gigabytes of digital records" to the University of Delaware library to build his archive.
But the university changed the rules for when the records would be made public shortly before Biden kicked off his presidential campaign.
Now two organizations -- the Daily Caller News Foundation and Judicial Watch -- are suing the university for access. If they succeed, it could bring a wealth of new information about Biden's past public service to light ahead of the election.
Democratic delegate ballots will be in two days before the convention starts. "Delegates to this year's convention will vote remotely using a system the planning committee crafted that allows them to cast their ballots via email, with unique identifiers for security. The DNC secretary said his office plans to certify each delegate." (The Hill) The Democratic Party's convention will be run online with a new voting system for delegates based on unique email identifiers (no printing or scanning required!).
Although Joe Biden is the anticipated nominee, his primary opponents come into the convention with pledged delegates of their own -- so it won't be officially until the delegate count is in.
And, on an interesting note, delegates may vote between August 3 and August 15. The Democratic National Convention starts August 17, two days after voting closes. We presume that time was allotted to ensure there's no Iowa-caucus-style challenges.
