Each year, on the Saturday before American Thanksgiving, we recognize International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day: an opportunity for those who have been affected by the tragedy of suicide to come together and find support, comfort, and healing through shared experience.
Also known as “Survivor Day,” those who have lost someone to suicide will gather at events around the globe on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
AFSP volunteer Taylor Ryan is just one person who had a deeply moving and supportive experience at a Survivor Day event, after losing her mother to suicide:
“Everyone at the event knew the deep pain of losing someone close to them to suicide. You could even identify what type of loss people had experienced by the colored ribbons participants wore. Each color represented a specific type of loss –– a parent, child, sibling, partner, or friend –– and created an immediate sense of understanding and connection. It was a quiet acknowledgment that, even in our shared grief, we aren’t alone.” (You can read more about Taylor’s experience in her article featured in AFSP’s Real Stories blog, here.)
Survivor Day events bring much comfort to the many people who attend, bringing a sense of hope, understanding, and community, especially during a time of year which can be difficult for survivors of suicide loss.
We hope to see you at your local Survivor Day event on November 22, and encourage you to register today.
