Last night the people of California sent a powerful message, John: Elections will be decided by voters, not MAGA politicians.

A few months ago, Donald Trump called Texas Governor Greg Abbott and told him that Republicans were “entitled” to five more Republican U.S. House seats in Texas. MAGA cronies in Texas immediately schemed to redraw their maps in an unprecedented move to eliminate five Democratic districts and color them red.

It could’ve been the perfect plan. Even as Trump’s chaos drove up prices, made healthcare unaffordable, and stripped away our rights, Republicans thought they could cling to their U.S. House Majority by rigging the system.

One thing Donald Trump never counted on, however, was the state of California standing up and fighting back.

He never counted on you.

Instead of agonizing over this blatant power grab, we organized and we mobilized. Together, we embarked on a historic 90-day sprint to take action here in California to neutralize Trump’s election-rigging scheme.

And last night we won in a blowout that shocked the pundits and talking heads. Donald Trump poked the bear, and we roared back.

We wish we could say that this incredible landslide victory is the end of the story. That we can pack up and rest with democracy secured.

But now comes the next test: Whether we can take our new Congressional maps and flip the seats needed to take back control of the U.S. House.
