![]() I’ll admit it: talking about Affordable Care Act tax subsidies isn’t exactly the stuff of viral campaign ads. You won’t see any flashy slogans or catchy jingles about the intricacies of tax policy and affordable health care plans. But you WILL definitely notice when your insurance premiums double or triple next year — all because Donald Trump directed Republicans to not extend the ACA credits so many families depend on. This month marks the start of open enrollment for 2026 ACA health care plans — and over 225,000 Coloradans are waking up to some serious sticker shock. For one couple in this district, an insurance plan with a $600 monthly premium is set to jump to a $1,800 monthly premium next year! These subsidies are far more than just numbers on a piece of paper. They’re the difference between families having to choose between putting a roof over their head or getting the medical care they need. They’re the difference between receiving cancer treatment or being left with nowhere to turn. If Republicans don’t address these skyrocketing costs, up to 110,000 Coloradans will lose their health insurance altogether — that’s thousands of moms, dads and kids left with no safety net. No contingency plan. No access to the care they need. Illnesses and emergencies will still happen and those costs will come down on everyone else. This affects all of us. It’s horrific what Donald Trump and his Republican Party are determined to put families through — all so a handful of their ultra-rich friends can be even richer.
