On Friday night, Donald Trump and his wealthy friends held a lavish, invite-only Great Gatsby-themed party – feasting, drinking, and dancing at his Mar-A-Lago resort. [1]

The next morning, millions of Americans woke up to empty fridges – wondering how they’d afford to eat after Trump cut off their SNAP benefits.

Trump’s government shutdown – now the longest in U.S. history [2] – has put 42 million children, veterans, seniors, and others at risk of not having enough to eat. [3] But instead of fixing it, Trump chose to celebrate while families go hungry.

And just today, after first promising he’d go along with a court’s order to use emergency USDA funding for this genuine emergency – he’s back on Truth Social threatening to withhold ALL SNAP aid for hungry Americans until Congress caves on the shutdown he started. [4]

Families in need shouldn’t have to keep up with the President’s unhinged social media rants to know where their next meal is coming from. And treating hungry children like a bargaining chip is unforgivable.

Trump’s political games have already done permanent damage. Every delay means more children going to bed hungry, more veterans skipping meals, and more seniors wondering how they’ll get through the week.

And here’s the truth: it’s not because there’s no money.

Federal courts have ordered Trump to fund SNAP with the $5 billion the USDA has in reserves. And a federal judge also ruled that the president can redirect other funds to cover SNAP – but Trump refuses to. [5]

There’s always enough money when it suits Trump and his friends. Trump is demanding $230 million from taxpayers to cover his own legal scandals. [6] He found $40 billion to bail out Argentina’s far-right government. [7] And he handed the top 1% a $1 trillion tax cut. [8]

But when it comes to feeding the working families who keep our country running? Suddenly, the cash runs out.
