John
It’ll be hours before the results are in. But we wanted to give you an early look at what’s happening in Virginia and Pennsylvania where your Feminist Majority campus mobilization teams are in full swing. This morning, across 30 campuses in Virginia and Pennsylvania, students woke up and did what they’ve been preparing for all year. They rolled out of dorms, packed folding tables and homemade signs, and sprinted into the work of democracy. Already today, they’ve been almost everywhere — at polling places, on quads, outside student unions — and if you’re wondering whether it’s working, the answer is: YES!!! |
You can feel it in the pace, the turnout, the way students are showing up for each other. And it didn’t happen by accident. In the lead-up to today: |
-
At Virginia Tech, they turned a punk show into a voter education drive — music shaking the walls while organizers registered new voters between sets.
- At William & Mary, they launched a “Wake Up and Vote” morning with coffee, donuts, and the kind of peer-to-peer urgency that moves students before class.
-
At Mary Washington, students watched the debates, then they fanned out to canvas local districts that badly needed turnout.
- At Hollins, they made it joyful: pumpkin painting, sticker stations, and small acts of encouragement that welcomed every kind of voter.
- At University of Pittsburgh, student organizers knocked on doors at dawn, canvassing across campus with quiet purpose.
- At Gettysburg College, they brought out the dogs — a “Howl-o-ween” pup rally that drew crowds and reminded people to vote.
- At Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, they tabled at Pride Fest, making the connection between LGBTQ+ rights, the ERA, and the judicial retention vote in Pennsylvania.
|
And this is just a few of the scores of actions now under way on this Election Day thanks to the support of the Feminist Majority and friends like you. These are students who didn’t wait for permission. They trained, organized, raised their hands, and built something real on their campuses — and today, they are the reason turnout is building early and steadily in critical precincts.
All of this is happening against a powerful national backdrop. This week’s NBC and CNN polling shows Donald Trump sliding into deep unpopularity: disapproval around 63% and falling.
More telling: while 30% of voters still identify with MAGA, a whopping 43% now describe themselves as “No Kings” voters — a rejection of authoritarianism and a powerful signal of cultural and civic momentum. This is the world these students are stepping into — and reshaping. |
- In Virginia, a full-spectrum contest — governor’s seat, control of the legislature, and the drawing of legislative districts for the mid-terms — will decide the future of reproductive rights, prevent backsliding on the ERA, and basic protections for equality and women’s rights.
-
In Pennsylvania, the retention of three key Supreme Court justices could protect or dismantle progress on abortion, the Equal Rights Amendment, and redistricting. The outcome will come down to turnout in student-heavy counties — and we’re seeing signs of strength early.

We’ll send full results once the numbers come in. But we didn’t want to wait to tell you this: You helped build this. Every dollar, every hour, every person who stood with us made today’s momentum possible. And we want to hear from you — tell us why you supported this work. We’re collecting one-liners and reflections to include in later reports. Just send a quick reply to: [email protected]
Thank you for believing in this generation. Thank you for giving them the tools. The polls are still open — and because of you, they’re showing up and bringing thousands with them. With deep gratitude, |
Ellie Smeal, President, Feminist Majority |
Kathy Spillar, Executive Director |
P.S. Want to see the photos and campus stories coming in? We’ll be sharing those soon — and you can send yours too: [email protected] |
