Hi John,
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Big Oil-friendly officials just unveiled a horrifying plan to plunder Alaska's public lands.
It was part of a so-called Alaska Day — and it's a scheme to destroy the state's federal wildlands at a scale we've never seen.
The Center is on the ground in Alaska to hold the line and keep the Alaskan wild from being torn apart. Please help now by making a matched gift to the Alaska and Arctic Defense Fund.
The Trump administration's Alaska plan is a disaster for endangered species and the wild — and a theft of our public lands.
It wants to open the entire 1.5 million acres of the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil leasing, threatening the area where polar bears den and the legendary Porcupine caribou herd births its young.
In the western part of the Alaskan Arctic, Trump moved forward with turning over more than half of a 23-million-acre reserve that is the country's single-largest tract of federal public land.
Farther south, the administration traded away the heart of the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge for road construction, threatening one of the most important wetlands in the entire Pacific flyway for millions of migratory birds.
And it approved permits for the Ambler Road project, a 211-mile private mining road that would cut through the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. The road would cross the migration path of the Central Arctic caribou herd, which claims the longest land migration on Earth.
These national wildlife refuges, parks and reserves are some of the wildest, most undisturbed areas anywhere. They are also critical for imperiled species.
The Center will do all we can to protect the wilds of Alaska and the Arctic. Big Oil is eager to drill and pollute the lands and oceans we most cherish.
We can't let them get away with it.
Please help by making a matched gift to the Alaska and Arctic Defense Fund.
